My Bounty Begins

HUMBOLDT STREET, Brooklyn: You too can grow your own food. Yes, even in the city. Beans are easy, especially the climbers. Here are two batches from the seeds of the rattle snake pole beans I grew last year. The seeds were originally purchased from Baker Heirloom Seed.

And the first ripe tomato of the year award goes to…

Cherry! Same variety as last year, but not surprised since they are tiny and ripen faster than the beefsteaks and the like. Picked June 29th.

And here are the runners up harvested yesterday. Also lettuce. Don’t forget about the lettuce! The pests have been after it but I have successfully (so far) thwarted rats and sparrows with strategically sculpted chicken wire enclosures.
